The Rattray Society maintains a Surname DNA Project on FamilyTree. You can join the surname DNA project at FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA). Here’s how to join the project:
1. Log in to FTDNA at: familytreedna.com
2. Click “How to join” in the orange box
3. You will be prompted to click the appropriate box from there.
Surname DNA projects use genealogical DNA tests that trace male lineage. Surnames are usually passed down through the paternal line. Therefore, these projects typically require a Y-DNA test. Not sure which test to take? The FamilyTree site will answer that question. You can take a quiz right on the site! You can also contact us.
